Brand Crush: Donna Wilson S/S 18

There’s no denying that Donna Wilson, her wonderful creatures and quirky designs fill us with utter glee. We spend the end of Summer counting down the weeks until her yearly sample sale, where we always leave with an armful of bargains, and delight in the colourful, fun take on nature used in her ceramics and knitwear the rest of the time.

So when we were (very kindly) invited to visit the wonderful (now sadly closed) pop-up shop on Columbia Road to preview the new Spring / Summer 18 collection, it was impossible to say ‘no’.

New to the odd gang of creatures we welcome Lionel and Richie, named after the ‘Up All Night’ crooner himself and I’m sure true to their namesake will keep your little ones ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’ (sorry, couldn’t resist those Mum jokes) with joy if you were to welcome them into your home and their arms. Each little pal is lovingly hand crafted by the wonderful makers in Donna’s studio in London, so you can guarantee a lot of love has gone into making these future best friends for you mini-me’s.

This years collection includes ‘brightly coloured knitted balloons and bonbons‘ to ‘awaken the nostalgia of childhood birthday parties.’ Which is pretty fitting, considering the brand (and a little bird told us Donna herself) is celebrating two pretty big birthdays this year. The brand itself turns a wonderful 15 years old, and as for the creator behind the magic, well, you should never ask a lady her age!

It goes without saying that they’ve taken a small idea and turned it into something quite magical. No other brand could take sweeties and turn them into cushions in a tasteful way without losing the fun like Donna Wilson can. The designs seem to have their own little splash of personality when added to a sofa or armchair, thrown on the bed, bringing to life any room they find themselves in.

A sweet and new addition (correct us if we’re wrong) this season is the option to add a custom message to the beautiful balloon cushions. Not sure if we could get away with some crude but tongue in cheek messages, but we’re sure the sweeter and more sentimental of you could dream us some lovely ways to surprise loved ones with this cute option.

Okay, so I guess the above is a bit of an unofficial ‘exclusive’ and we hope we don’t get in trouble for posting it… But for the first time (ever?) Donna Wilson is launching a beautiful new product in the shape of silk scarves. With designs of sneaky snakes, four leaf clovers and florals, they’re distinctly on brand without being too Granny in the process. Silk scarves seem to be having a little revival at the moment, which we’re living for. Long gone are the days where a simple spritz of dry shampoo would save our poor, greasy hair with god knows what stuck in it from our small people. These cool scarves will be saving our bacon, making the perfect hair accessory and hiding all sins in the process.

Finally, though I’m not sure why we left accessories to our greatest love – food – till last, but Spring Summer includes a variety of beautifully hand painted bone china dinner sets all made and decorated in Stoke on Trent. The collection above comes in a set of four plates in varying designs, perfect for an excuse to throw a dinner party for all your mates.

All items can be found on Donna’s website now and in the coming months.
